The 1879 Rustic Fountain at Lake Wendouree, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia has celestial alignments (re) discovered in 2022 and 2024.
The left (south) arch of the fountain has a beautiful alignment with the winter solstice – the setting sun shines through the arch.
The peak of the display will be at 5:13 pm on 21 June. Arrive at least 15 minutes earlier to witness the dynamics of the event. The sun will also set close to this position between 7 June and 4 July, so if it is cloudy on the 21st there are several opportunities to witness this beautiful event.
